New Features
A new area - the Subterranean Grove - has been added to the bottom floor of the Labyrinth. This area includes a new NPC that can respec your character. This means you no longer have to wait until New Game + to respec - now you can do it as soon as Chapter 2.

Artifacts
A new item class has been added - the Artifact. When activated, artifacts change Nightingale's behavior, or have a positive and negative effect associated with them. Any number of Artifacts can be activated at a time.

Combat Revisions
In order to make the game more fluid and fun, combat has been significantly revised:
All of Nightingale's actions now have points where they can be canceled out of to dodge, block, or run - this makes all actions in the game faster(and safer)
Healing items can now be used while walking or running
There is a new Danger status when Nightingale suffers a blow that would kill her - this reduces her to 1 health and gives her 3 seconds of invulnerability in order to find something to heal with
The i-frames on the Evasion Codex(formerly Ghostly Ring) have been dramatically increased, making it much easier to dodge and avoid attacks
Monsters no longer turn when Nightingale rolls or otherwise dodges past them, making rolling past monsters and attacking from behind possible
Monsters briefly slow down after attacking to open more windows for counterattack
Monsters take into account velocity when choosing to attack, making it easier to bait out attacks by changing direction suddenly or dodging
All melee weapons have been adjusted and rebalanced to be somewhat faster and more satisfying
Many monster attacks have been revised to be more dodgeable
Portable Crafting Kit
Craft spells and laboratory items anywhere(so long as no monsters are around). Purchase from Albert in the Byzantine Labyrinth in Chapter 2, 3 or 4.
Monster Drops
All monsters now can drop additional loot, reducing the need to visit the shop for crafting supplies significantly.
New Hauntings
Several new hauntings have been added for the extremely cursed. Most noticeably, it now rains blood outside.

Shield Ring - doubles the durability of shields
Necromancer's Ring - increases the health of summoned allies
Corrupted Meat - poisons Nightingale but adds +75 health, dropped by various enemies
Polish
A new accessibility feature - Sound Icons - has been added to the Audio Options menu, which adds icons to off-screen sounds such as footsteps, combat, gunshots and explosions
Film grain(called Noise Effect in the options) has been reimplemented as a procedural effect instead of a video. This means it has more variety, will no longer crash some machines, and is finally compatible with Steam Deck builds.
Significant memory optimizations mean the game works much better on machines with low VRAM.
Significant CPU optimizations should increase loading and performance for machines with slower CPUs.
The title screen loads much more quickly, with less time spent on a black screen, on lower end machines.
The bell toll at the Moonless Formless logo has been removed to save your ears.
In menus, the mouse cursor is now hidden once a gamepad is used, and is only shown again if the mouse is moved.
Balance Changes
Nowhere now has a Comfy Chair and Remembrance Shrine in Chapter 1/2
Bleeding and poison now deal 30% health - previously they did fixed amounts per 100 health - this makes it much easier to predict their behavior
Healthy Roll heals 1% every 60 seconds, instead of 1 health
First Aid Kit heals 50% of health instead of 100%
Warding candles heal cursedness more smoothly and quickly
Shield durability scales more with poise and base durability increases with each NG+ level
Horace health increased and is now immune to poison/bleeding
When the maximum value of a stat such as health changes, the current value now scales proportionally
Burning Gentleman's flames go out on death
Many NPCs have more and rarer items for sale, and some now have a Sell option that did not previously

Instances where volumetric fog could still be seen when on lower quality levels, such as when outdoors, have been fixed(and the FPS in those areas will be higher now)
Fix vampirism only applying a single source of vampirism, instead of all of them - this meant wearing multiple pieces of equipment with vampirism was not effective previously
Fix cursed furniture transitioning into regular furniture occasionally causing furniture to become stuck halfway in the floor
Fix several instances where taking a photo could result in a black screen and softlock the game
Fix some enemies, such as the Cloaked Ghoul, being able to throw projectiles behind them
Fix holding a Torch while using the Curious Statue causing Nightingale to disappear

"Church of Burdens/Infinite Arena Update"
Book of Burdens
Unlock "hard mode" by picking up the Book of Burdens. In addition to making monsters much more deadly, you'll also be stalked by a new monster - the Burdened Brother - that can appear anywhere when you least expect it. When defeating a monster while holding the book, your bestiary entry is inverted and you receive a new item - Dream Essence. Toss the book away when things get too tough.
Nightingale's Creature
Enter the new Church of Burdens area in New Game + to create Nightingale's Creature. This new ally can be strengthened using Dream Essence collected while holding the Book of Burdens. Use the Summoning Knife to summon the creature to wherever you are. Pick the creature's playstyle - should they stay behind you, stay on the other side of your foe, protect you, or patrol the room independently of you? Craft an arsenal of weapons, shields and spellcasting tools and equip them in either hand. Set up a healer with a ranged fire attack or a dual sword wielder to accompany you on your journeys.
Epilogue D
In New Game +, you can now enter the the Church of Burdens and the Burial Grounds. You'll meet two new NPCs and can unlock a new ending.
Infinite Customizable Arena Matches
After completing the first 10 arena matches, you now unlock infinite customizable arena matches that award league points. Pick the monster pools, enchantments, number of monsters and music. Join with monsters in a team battle.
Fixed Camera Mode
After completing the game once, you now unlock Fixed Camera Mode. Similar to classic horror games, the camera will frame the scene in different ways as Nightingale moves through it. As this is a new feature, please file a bug if you see anything odd.

Outfits have been separated into head and body pieces with different effects that can be mixed and matched in any combination. The total number of looks Nightingale can have has gone from 19 to 396.
In addition to their normal effects, head and body outfits are now separated into Light, Medium and Heavy categories, each with impacts on Speed and base Physical Resistance.
Outfits and Fashion Records have been moved to their own section of the Pause Menu separate from Rings & Amulets.
Instead of a single filthy bag in the East Stairwell with an outfit in it, there are now many filthy bags distributed throughout each chapter, each with random head or body pieces. Several merchants now also sell outfits that did not previously.
Existing Outfits have been broken apart - i.e. you can use the Doll Bonnet and Doll Dress separately instead of the Doll Outfit.

New Features
Melee weapons, guns, and spells can now be permanently upgraded using the new Weapon Upgrade Kit and Arcane Salts items. Each upgrade makes the item permanent and adds 8% more base damage, up to +3. These upgrades are distributed throughout Chapter 3 & 4.
The Organ Chamber and Labyrinth Organ Chamber now only let you level up 5 times. In Chapter 3 & 4, you can find schematics that let you level up additional times.

Balance Changes
Randomized Labyrinth rings now cannot generate with multiple similar improvements(i.e. +4 bleeding to melee and +4 poison to melee), and in some cases overly powerful positive and negative effects have been capped to a lower level.
Enemies proceed through doors much more quickly.
Doors are marked as "in use" when an enemy is walking through them and cannot be used by Nightingale.
Enemies are much more aggressive when coming out of doors, in some cases launching surprise attacks.
Enemies are much more aggressive when waking from paralysis.
Dafydd(the gun wielding zombie in Chapter 1) has had his behavior adjusted to fire his gun more often but give the player more time to stop him.

Hotkeys have been eliminated in favor of an 8-way radial quick select menu that pauses the action. Hold Middle Click (Mouse), R (Keyboard) or R1/RB to bring it up.
Dodging and running have been combined into a single button, mapped to Left Shift (Keyboard) or Circle/B (Gamepad). Tap while still to dodge, tap while moving forward to roll, and hold to run.
Reloading is no longer a button. Guns must be aimed to fire, otherwise they will reload.
Minimap toggle on Gamepad is now L1/LB.
The D-Pad now always works the same for movement as the Left Analog Stick, so you can use either.
Please try the new scheme before modifying the keybindings, and definitely give feedback via bug reports(press / in-game), e-mail or Discord if there's something you don't like!

A new quality level for the Graphics Options has been added - "Very High".
The "Very High" quality level enables volumetric lighting for all rooms. This effect is more subtle in brightly lit areas but affects outdoor and dark/dusty areas dramatically.
If you are on a desktop PC and were previously on "High" your setting will automatically be set to "Very High", as most gaming PCs should be able to run the new setting well - adjust it back down or turn down another setting(such as resolution scale or anti aliasing level) if you encounter performance issues. Steam Deck continues to default to "High".

New Features

Balance Changes
Poise now recovers after 5 seconds across the player and all enemies
Regular enemies with the sigil beneath them in the Labyrinth now drop ancient blood
Old Sword durability is now only affected by physical damage dealt
Dodges are no longer interrupted unless poise is actually broken
Touching a ghost with the Bible will now alert them to your presence
Knife, Rapier, and Axe damage slightly increased
Pipe heavy attack made slightly slower
The Old King boss has a much longer cooldown on spells
Enchanted Armor does slightly less physical/bleed damage, and much less poise damage

Fixed an issue where the map would stop updating and NPCs would stop spawning under certain circumstances

Note: Many doors were not properly locked in 0.87. This has been fixed. If you managed to reach somewhere in the previous version without a key and are now stuck, you can now choose Options -> Support -> Start New Night to reset with the mansion without losing any items. Please reach out to Support if you have any problems - we can fix saves if need be.
New Features
Melee combat has been significantly overhauled:
Hold the attack button for a heavy attack
For most weapons, this will cover the same distance as dodging back
Press the attack button repeatedly for a brief combo
Subsequent attacks are generally faster than the initial attack
Attacks now push combatants apart
Who gets pushed is based on poise damage
Input buffering has been rewritten
Getting hit empties the buffer, and the buffer is more generous in most situations
The damage and animations of all weapons have been significantly rebalanced
The goal is to carve out a true niche for each weapon
Your favorite weapons may feel significantly different
Experiment with the various weapons to get a feel for them
Dodge back no longer scales distance with Speed
A new weapon - the Cleaver - has been added, and is now the initial tutorial weapon
Feedback is welcome, as this is a sizeable change in the feel of the game. If a weapon you loved you now hate, or you feel like you're struggling with the new system, please get in touch!

A new "quick item found display" feature has been added - items you've found already no longer pause the game and instead appear in a stack on the right side of the HUD. Experienced players can enable this for all items(not just ones you've already found) in the Gameplay Options. Note that until you've picked up an item in 0.86, it will still be considered new.

This patch has a larger download than previous patches, but the game actually takes up less space once installed. Content has been restructured to allow for even more disk space savings in upcoming patches. Players with slower hard drives may see load time improvements.
